bibliomancy in a haunted brothel, 2014
Ghostly Practice durational performance in the basement of a haunted former brothel in the Mission District, San Francisco.
Immersive durational performance set in a former San Francisco brothel believed to be haunted. The ritual involved bibliomancy through the soles of the feet with an early 20th century Webster’s dictionary, a physical exploration using rope, twine and antique scissors, a cutting and binding of past and present narratives between the women who live there, enfleshed and otherwise. The piece explores the friction between duty and desire, freedom and restraint in the lives of women, collaborating with the ghosts of liberated women both bound and released by their own bodies and stories.
